 “Seems like everyone is busy today,” Hiroki mumbled to himself as he shoved his phone back into his pocket as he made his way through the town. Hiroki had messaged a few people and every one of them had plans, they of course invited Hiroki, but he declined. He paused for a moment as he looked up, the sun was beating down brightly today and Hiroki secretly wished he could go to the beach or to the pool to just cool off. He didn’t do well with the heat. He pulled on the collar of his shirt as he continued to make his way down town. Perhaps he should go into one of the cafes to get some lemonade or something. He sighed as he pulled his phone back out of his pocket and texted a few more numbers. He had a lot of contacts in his phone, but there was only a handful that he would message freely first. It was a Saturday so most everyone was either on vacation, out on dates, or working part-time. He wanted to get a job, but it was difficult to do when he had to take care of his dead. He shook his head at the thought.
Bzzzzzzz
Hiroki looked down at the phone as it vibrated. Sorry! I have to babysit my brother today! What a pain! Maybe later on ^_^ :-*. He sighed as he looked at the reply from one of the girls he knew. He was sort of glad she couldn’t, she was rather clingy and claimed to be his girlfriend, even though he rejected her plenty of times. She was friendly but she was easily jealous and distracted. It wouldn’t be too long before she found someone else she liked. Hiroki shook his head at the thought. He didn’t understand how someone can go from person to person like that. There was really only one girl he liked, but that was a long time ago. He doubt that would ever happen anytime soon. Anyway any girl he dated in high school quickly broke up with him because he wasn’t ‘serious’ enough. It would be best if he just didn’t try to get to that point with anyone.
It’s alright. Don’t worry about it. Hiroki quickly texted back, not paying attention to where he was walking. That is when he ran into someone. He lost his balance and fell right on the ground. He groaned as he looked around making sure his phone was alright. He took a deep breath of relief.
“Sorry about that,” he said as he turned to whoever he ran into, “I wasn’t paying attention.”

"No! No! No! This isn't right." the girl huffed as she tried to look at the map in different angels as if it would make a difference. Was she holding it upside down? Her stomach let out a roar of hunger, and she clutched it with her right hand. So... hungry.. I knew I should've ate breakfast, but I want to try human food. Saiyuri was also looking forward to meeting some of the humans. Humans would visit the shrine, but she could only watch them. The fox girl's long, blonde hair was pulled back into a single braid with flowers in her hair. Saiyuri wore a pink kimono top with a red skirt. She wanted to look pretty for her first time going into town. It seemed like a good reason to dress up. Why not look fashionable on her first day out? It was supposed to be a fun day for her and dressing up was part of it. Saiyuri groaned and decided to put the map away and figure it out on her own. "Okay! Let's try this again.." she said to herself and turned around only to bump into someone. She stumbled backwards in shock and lost balance of herself, falling down on her bottom. "Ow.. Owie.." Her red gaze lifted up to see a boy around her age. Well, physically she was around his age. Saiyuri sat there on the ground and blinked at the boy curiously. Her ears grew irritated underneath the hat she was wearing. The girl stared at him for a while and suddenly started to giggle at how silly they looked. Saiyuri waved him off and started to pick herself up off the ground, brushing her clothes off with her hands. "Nah, it's okay! I'm Saiyuri, by the way." She walked over to Hiroki and extended out her hand to him. "Take it. I don't bite~" |

“I’m Hiroki,” He replied with a smile as he gladly took her hand as she helped him back on his feet. She seemed friendly and was very cute. There was something particular about her that he couldn’t put his finger on, but he pushed the thought away. He never saw the girl before around, was she new here or something? He noticed the map in her hand. So she was new around here. He pointed to the map. “Are you lost?” He asked her. He lived in this place his whole life so he knew were pretty much everything was (even if there were some places that he didn’t really go to that often). Hiroki felt his phone vibrate once again, but ignored the text and shoved it back into his pocket. He figured someone was just telling him they couldn’t hang out like everyone else. He sighed. Perhaps he should have taken up on their offer and join some of them when they were going to the hot springs, but he wasn’t really into that type of thing.
“I can help you if you need to find somewhere in particular,” he told her, “are you new around here?” He asked with a tilt of his head. Hiroki wasn’t good at paying attention to others around him (unless during certain circumstances) so he might have spotted her before, maybe he was just assuming wrong that she was new here. He didn’t want to over step his boundaries, but she seemed rather friendly and welcoming.
“Sorry if I’m bothering you or if you’re in a rush to go somewhere or anything,” he told her quickly as he put his hands up. He hated to sound rude and pushy, but he was the kind of person to indicate conversations and help those that need it – even though going to the point of assuming someone needed help before they even told him so. It was a bad habit that he needed to work on.

"Hiroki, huh? Well, nice to meet you, Hiroki~" she sung his name in a happy tune. Another human boy... She hoped to meet some girls soon. Then, she wouldn't have just boys as her friends. It's not like she had anything against that, but she wanted at least one girl friend.. or two.
Her red eyes flickered, and she jumped a little when their hands met. Saiyuri simply shook the feeling away and pulled the boy up onto his two feet. Once Hiroki was up on his feet and okay, he questioned her if she was lost. The map she was holding sort of gave it away. Boy, was that embarrassing! Maybe Hiroki wouldn't ask too many questions about her. She knew she was supposed to keep it a secret that she was a spirit, but that was part of her. She couldn't lie about who she was.
"Y-Yeah." she admitted, blushing shyly. "Um... I've never came into town before. I guess you could say I like to.. um... stay at home." Saiyuri laughed nervously to herself and glanced around as if she was looking for something to distract the boy. "Yeah, I don't really get out much.."
Yeah, you could say she was lost. Saiyuri might be able to make it back to the shrine. Or, she could always ask Hiroki where the kitsune shrine was. Hopefully, he wouldn't follow her there and find out that she lived there. He would probably want to know why she was living in a forest near the shrine. Her slid out of her ears a little bit, and she tucked them back in when Hiroki wasn't looking. What was that thing in his pocket? It made a sound Saiyuri didn't like and yet she wanted to investigate it.
Her tails started to swish back and forth with excitement. Saiyuri shook her head and waved her hands in front of herself in distress. "N-No, it's okay. And... there is a place I'm trying to find. I want to swing by and get a bite. Do you know a place that has good food?" Her stomach growled lowly, and Saiyuri groaned in response. I just wish this thing would shut up! Oh, god... What if he thought she was poor and starving herself to death? She did not need him following her back home, but she would enjoy his company for the day.
"Hey! You aren't busy, are you? It's the weekend and you are all by yourself in town. Either you're waiting for someone or you have no clue what to do. How about you show me around? I mean, that's if you don't mind doing that. I can understand if you don't want to." Gosh, she was a talkative girl... Sometimes that's just what she does when she's excited or nervous. She'll ramble on and on and on about nonsense. But, everyone has their own little thing they do when they are nervous. Saiyuri would also play with her hair when she was nervous.

This girl was very hyper and high-spirited, not that was any problem. Hiroki liked being around those kind of people. There was some sort of innocence about her. “That’s too bad,” Hiroki said kindly, not wanting to step on her toes after saying she didn’t really get out much. There was an nervousness about her and Hiroki wasn’t going to push her on the subject, “but at least you’re about to be out now.” He told her, trying to think a positive out spin on it. Hiroki felt his phone vibrate again. He almost reached in his pocket to look at it, but he figured it was rather rude when he was with someone else. He decided it was best not to and he would look at it later.
He listened as she spoke about where a good place to get some food was at. Hiroki pointed in the distance. “There is a cafe about two blocks down that way on the left. It’s a rather popular place with some good food. I would recommend that one.” He told her as he flashed her a warm smile. She was a cute girl; she seemed to be about his age. He wondered since she stayed home all the time if she was homeschooled. He felt a little bad for her that she didn’t go out much. He wondered if it was her own choice if maybe she wasn’t allowed too, which made him curious if she had snuck out or something to go see the town.
Suddenly she began to ask him to show her the town. He almost spoke but decided to quickly look at his phone first, just in case. He pulled it out. Hey! Do you want to come over now? We can watch some movies or something ;). It was a text from the girl earlier. He sighed wondering what he should do. He felt bad because it seemed like Saiyuri was lost and would like the company, however he was also the one that asked the girl (her name was Aya) if she was busy so it would come off the wrong way if he now suddenly blew her off.
“Ah, sorry. I actually got to go meet someone. Maybe another time? I really am sorry though.” He said speaking honestly.

The blonde simply shrugged her shoulders in response. Hiroki was right. It sucked being cooped up at home, but she had to stay at the fox shrine. It protected her for her whole life and so she wanted to protect it. Obviously, curiosity got the best of the little fox. Saiyuri just had to see the world with her own eyes.. for once.
She nodded in agreement and smiled sweetly at the man. She was relieved to leave the shrine for a little while. Maybe she would bump into Tanu! Her ears pointed backwards at the sound of Hiroki's phone vibrating in his pocket. Her six tails dropped with disappointment that Hiroki wouldn't be joining her.
"Oh.. It's okay. I'm sure I can handle it on my own. Thanks for the directions. See you later!" Saiyuri waved at Hiroki before she turned and started to run off in the direction Hiroki told her that there would be a cafe.
--The Cafe~
The little bell above the door rang, warning the waiters and waitresses that they had a costumer. Blah, blah, blah... A waitresses greeted Saiyuri and led her to a table. Saiyuri ordered her drink and food, waiting patiently for it to arrive. The fox looked to the table in front of her where a couple was seated.
They were talking, smiling, and laughing. It looked like they were having a fun time. Saiyuri noticed the empty seat in front of her. Oh, she wished she would make some friends soon. Then, one of them could join her whenever she wanted to go out to eat. It felt kind of weird for her to eat by herself. She always had the company of the spirits in the forest or her step-father.
The waitress came back and set the drink and food on the table. Saiyuri ordered a hot cocoa and a stack of fresh, hot pancakes with a side of bacon, sausage, eggs, and toast. Yeah, she could put away a lot of food. She was very hungry! People started to stare when they heard the new girl make all kinds of noises as she ate. "W-Wow.. This is delicious!" After finishing her meal... There was a loud thump, and it was Saiyuri being thrown to the ground by the owner of the cafe. "And, don't ever come back here again!"
Saiyuri whimpered and rubbed her bottom, wincing slightly in pain. What was that all about? She was completely dumbfounded. What did she do wrong? All she could recall was finishing her meal and then the waitress questioned her about paying money. Saiyuri didn't understand what money was nor did she know that she had to give them money for her food. The girl sat there for a while before she rose up to her feet, fixing her top and smoothing out her skirt.

“Alright, bye and enjoy yourself!” Hiroki said as he waved as he watched her leave. He felt a little guilty and wondered if he did the right thing. He shook his head; it was too late for that. He turned around and began to make his way toward Aya’s house. However, every few minutes he stopped and looked behind him. He didn’t know why he was worrying about her so much, but he kept getting the nagging feeling that he needed to go back. He stopped the middle of the road as he looked in the direction she walked. He pulled out his phone and looked at it. He finally sent a quick text to Aya saying he was sorry, but that he had already made plans and that he would make it up to her before going in the direction that Saiyuri had gone. He hoped she wasn’t upset and thought he was rude just to turn her down like that then to just suddenly change his mind like that.
He stopped when he reached the café, but before he could get inside he saw what appeared to be the owner throwing her out. What had happened when she was in there? Was she some kind of trouble maker that he didn’t know about? No, that didn’t seem to be the case. She seemed like she might be a little ditzy and innocent, but not a trouble maker. He reached her as soon as she got up to her feet. “What happened?” He asked her. “Are you okay? Did you get hurt?” He asked her. Maybe the owner was an ass and just threw her out? He wasn’t sure. He felt bad that she went through that type of experience. Even more since it was her first time out on the town.
“Oh…well if you don’t mind, my plans sort of changed and I’m able to hang out with you. That is if you want.” He said as he flashed her smile. He wanted to show her a good time, because who knows when she will be able to get out again. It should be a special memory, not a crappy one and he wanted to make that happen.

Her large, red eyes blinked at the man curiously. Wait a minute... It was the man she ran into earlier! Saiyuri giggled at the coincidence that they would end up finding each other again. Little did she know, Hiroki actually came back to find her. Didn't he have plans, though?
Maybe the plans got canceled. She fluffed her tails out and looked over her body for any injuries before she looked up to Hiroki. Saiyuri smiled at him and tilted her head in a cute, girly way. "Yep! Just a bruised bottom~"
It wouldn't surprise her if she fell back on her bottom again or trip over her own legs. For a spirit, she was very clumsy especially around humans. The experience didn't hurt her that much. She was mostly worried about what she did wrong to make the owner angry with her.
"Um... A girl said something about paying for my food with money. Honestly, I have no idea what money is... and I'm sure I don't have any." Saiyuri didn't care if the truth would lead Hiroki to finding out about her being a spirit.
It didn't matter. She wanted to stay true to herself and everyone else that came into her life. She just wanted to be.. herself. The fox let out a surprised gasp, and she jumped up excitedly.
"Really?! That sounds great! Ooh~ Does this mean we are friends? I really hope so~ I've never been friends with a regular hu- I mean, um... Let's have fun." she laughed and hoped Hiroki didn't catch what she was about to say.

“What? What do you mean you don’t know anything about money?” Hiroki asked as he gave her a confused look. He sighed as he scratched the back of his neck and shook his head. Was this girl naïve or what? Was she locked away or something like that? How couldn’t she know something as basic as money? He was beginning to feel really bad for this girl and wondered how her home life could be, but he knew it wasn’t his place to barge in; after all they all had secrets that they didn’t want to share. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, pulling out a few yen coins and showing them to Saiyuri. “This is money; this is what you have to use in order to buy stuff. Just wait here a moment.” He told her as he went into the café. He paid them what she owed and apologized to them about what happened and tried to explain the situation the best that he could before he soon came walking out of the café. “All good.” He said.
“Yes, that means we can be friends.” He told her. There certainly was something strange about this girl. How she acted, how she spoke, how she didn’t know things…could there be more to her than what meets the eye? He wasn’t sure and decided not to dwell on it. He knew that she was a nice bubbly girl that just happened to be a little innocent. “Alright, where do you want to go first? And don’t worry, it’s my treat.” He told her with a smile. Hiroki didn’t work part time, but he did get an allowance (even though it was rather small) from his father whenever he was in one of his drunken sob fests and wanted to make himself feel better for being a crappy dad. At first Hiroki refused to take the money, but now he accepted it, for all the work he did around the house, he felt like he deserved it after everything his father had put him through.
“I’m ready whenever you are,” he told her with a small smile.

It was exactly what she said. The fox spirit knew nothing about money or using it to pay for her food. Hm... She could look at it as someone giving her a gift, and she gives them a gift in return. That was the only way she could understand it, really. Saiyuri prepared her ears for the worst when the man reached into his pocket. What was he going to pull out? Please, don't be the wretched noise that was buzzing in his pants. It was an awful sound.
Her ears heard the jingling sound of the coins in Hiroki's pocket. Her heart leaped with excitement for some reason. It was such a pretty sound to her. Saiyuri awed at the coins and took Hiroki's hand, inspecting the coins up closely.
"Wow... They are so shiny!" She looked up as Hiroki pulled away and headed inside of the cafe. He told her to wait there and she did. It didn't take long before Hiroki walked out of the cafe. All good?
Oh, well. If everything was good then it was okay. Saiyuri let out a happy giggle and jumped up with excitement. "Hehehe~ Yay!" Yes! I've made a friend with a human. Well, Tanu is a human but he is special~ He's a half-breed!"
Mission accomplished! But, Saiyuri hoped to make some girl friends along the way. There were just some things girls could only talk about with girls. The girl giggled to herself and twirled around in her kimono. It gave her a warm and chilling feeling inside. She just didn't know what to do with herself.
"Alright! I want to go somewhere fun like... um.. well, I don't know. What are some fun places around here? I want you to show me everything but it's okay if we don't get through it all today. I don't want to rush to see everything because then it wouldn't be any fun. I want to be able to soak it all in for a minute. I bet the world is beautiful."

Hiroki couldn’t help but laugh how happy Saiyuri was acting. She was a very bright person to be around and Hiroki couldn’t help but smile. “Well, there is plenty of places we can go too. There is the arcade…karaoke…the movies…” he started to speak as he used his fingers to help count and remember all the things there was in the town, as well as trying to think of things that girls would like to do. “There are a lot of shops…the hot springs…” he stopped as he turned to look at her. “Do any of those seem interesting or do you just want to look around?” He asked her. He really didn’t have a lot of money left so he was glad when she insisted that they didn’t have to do everything today. So it seemed like this wasn’t a onetime deal, was she positive she could come out again or is she just insisting she could escape again? He really wasn’t sure. He was itching to ask her where she lived, but he wondered if that would be too personal and decided it was best not to ask.
“I’m not exactly sure what you are looking for, but there is plenty of things to keep us busy for the time being.” He told her. “And we can always do this again on another day…of course it would have to be after school hours.” He reminded her; since he doubted she went to school…did she even know about school? He shook his head. That was an odd thought, he was positive she had to have been homeschooled or something along those lines. Though it seemed whoever was doing it seemed to be missing a lot of key elements in their teaching materials. There was probably a lot more that she didn’t know about or experienced. He seemed like he had to show her (even though he knew he didn’t). He just felt bad. There was so much interesting things in the world that everyone should be able to experience. It almost seemed a pity that a girl of her aged seemed to have really done nothing with her life.
If anything Hiroki wanted to make her experience a happy one and wanted to show her several different interesting things.

Her red gaze easily shifted from the boy to her pink kimono. Her dress really complimented her apple red eyes. Red and pink go good together, anyway. They are the Valentine's Day colors, too! She was too busy fidgeting around with her dress to notice what Hiroki was laughing at. Saiyuri looked up at Hiroki and tilted her head, blinking at him curiously. Did she say something funny? She was glad to hear that there were plenty of places they could visit.
It was still hard to choose. The girl had no clue what the movies were or karaoke... "I'm not sure. Let's just have a look around first. Maybe something will catch my attention." She nodded in agreement that they had plenty things to keep themselves occupied, depending on if they liked all of those things. Saiyuri blinked her big, red eyes at Hiroki and gasped with excitement. Hiroki wanted to spend time with her again someday! That made her so happy. She couldn't wait to learn from Hiroki about the ways of a human. Saiyuri started to hum a happy tune as she walked ahead of Hiroki, turning around and smiling at him.
"C'mon, Hiroki. You gotta keep up with me. I can't give the tour to myself, you know."
